metropolHotel Metropol, one of Moscow's landmark hotels, will be sold by auction this summer. The historical hotel was built in 1902 and decorated by a famous Russian painter Mikhail Vrubel. The hotel has a premium location next to the Red Square, but due to the poor management (by the Moscow government), it had the low occupancy rates of only 55-60% and did not command premium prices considering its location. According to the market experts, Metropol can be sold for up to $500 million.

Moscow hotels remain the most expensive in Europe, according to the global hotel online booking system hotel.info. Moscow with an average price of 7,227 RUB a night is followed by Oslo (6,335 RUB per night) and London (6,236 RUB per night). Also in the Top 10 are Stockholm, Helsinki and Warsaw.

Accor Hotel Group has opened a boutique 4* hotel property at Smolenskaya, in the very heart of Moscow. This will be the first Mercure brand in Moscow called the Mercure Arbat Hotel.

Marriott will open a property in Krasnoyarsk in 2014, under Marriott brand. This will be a second Marriott in Siberia, after a recently opened Courtyard by Marriott Irkutsk.

A new Hyatt Regency hotel will be built in Moscow by 2015 near the Dynamo stadium in the North of the city. It will be the 5th Hyatt property in Russia: the Moscow Hyatt Ararat is a 5* property opened 10 years ago, there is also a Hyatt Regency in Ekaterinburg. There are 3 Hyatt Regency properties under construction, one in Sochi and two Hyatt hotels in Vladivostok.
