According to the latest consumer survey by the Russian Center of Public Opinion Research, foreign countries are the most desirable destination from the Russian holidaymakers. 30% of Russians want to travel abroad when on holiday, 23% would choose Black Sea resorts, 16% will stay home, and 6% - at their countryside houses. 36% of Russians prefer beach holidays, 21% - sightseeing trips, 18% would go to for medical/wellness trip, and 15% - fishing and hunting.

However, in reality, only 5-10% of Russians can afford to make holidays abroad this summer. Over 50% stay at home while 25% will go to the countryside houses, 10% will visit other places in Russia, and 11% will go to the Black sea in Russia or Ukraine. In 2011, the same survey showed that 6% of Russians would travel abroad, so the picture is quite consistent.

65% of respondents noted that to make a trip abroad, they have to save money in advance, and only 13% can go and buy a trip straight away. The average spend per trip is around $800-900 for each family member (a standard Russian family being two parents and one child). Residents of Moscow and St-Petersburg have a higher spent per person - $1200. Russians with higher income still prefer to organize their trip through a travel agency.
