European Hotels Experience a revPAR Reduction

Hotels in Europe have suffered a substantial year-on-year drop in occupancy according to the latest figures from STR Global, the hotel benchmarking company. In January 2009 the occupancy in Russia fell by 23.2%, in Italy by 17.5%, in Spain by 14.5%, in Germany by 8.3% and in the UK by 7.3%  The occupancy rate in Russia in January 2009 was 34.1%. There were also substantial falls in the revPAR (revenue per available room) in all the five countries, STR says. In Russia it dropped by 29% compared with January 2008. There were also smaller falls in average daily rates in Europe and in Russia it went down by 7.6% to 137.4 euros.
